Week 13

Hope everyone had a great Christmas!

This week has been a pretty bad one because both Jared & I are sick with a bad cold. Luckily, there are a few meds on the "approved" list I can take. I'm sure Baby Lammy is sick of my coughing so much! And, I hate taking anything, but it's the only way I can sleep & it'll be a short run of the medication.

I finally had to get out of my regular jeans with the belly band and are now wearing some lovely maternity jeans. They're not too bad, just a little awkward at first. Pretty stylish overall.

We started talking about names, but rather than arguing over two, we'll wait until we receive a gender confirmation from the doctor. Our next appt is Jan 11 but not sure if we'll have an ultrasound that day or not, they really don't tell you in advance!

I'm feeling like myself overall (minus the cold) so I guess the first trimester sickness & complete exhaustion is going away. I'm ready to start cleaning out the house, organizing & exercising with my prenatal pilates!

Thanks for reading!

12 Weeks

Today was our 12 week appt with the high-risk OB. Dr. Thatcher suggested we see him because of my Crohn's and allergies. Everything went great! Baby Lammy is developing just fine.

They took tons of pictures because he/she wasn't cooperating so much with the ultrasound machine. Shocking, stubborn already! We got 2 good profile shots, a good leg shot and a top down view with the head in the middle and arms above baby's head. They gave a guess to the gender, but it's still too early to tell. Heart rate was 176 and the nurse thought the rate over 140 means it's a girl is a bunch of bologna so we'll see. All we want is a healthy (and not too big) baby!

Happy Holidays! And, thanks for sharing the joy of this baby with us.

Heard the heartbeat!

On Monday Dec 14th we heard the baby's heartbeat! It was 175 which apparently according to an old wives tale says that since it's over 140 it'll be a girl. I guess we'll find out in 7-9 more weeks. The doctor said the rate was normal for how far along we are and we go for our 2nd ultrasound on Tuesday 12/22.

Jared is already batting around boys names but we're going to wait to further that discussion until we know the gender. No sense in going rounds & rounds to agree on a boy's name and a girl's name when we only need one! It's funny because so far the consensus is that it's a boy & that number of people grows each day, but I still do not know. Just hoping for a healthy baby!

As far as things go with me, I'm eating much better now and gained a total of 4.5 lbs. I'm expecting that by Christmas I'll really have trouble with some of my clothes but happy that it's still pretty warm here in Orlando so my dresses are coming in very handy. And, it's a good thing the style now is kind of loose!

Have a great week before Christmas!

10 Weeks

Yesterday we reached the 10 week mark. It seems like time is going by faster than ever, but never seems fast enough to get us to the next appt! Since I'm a realist, I need to see the baby to ensure he/she is ok and growing at a healthy rate.

Since Friday I've been able to eat dinner - like real food! That started the first time in a few weeks. I'm still trying to eat healthier, but still leaning towards crackers, bread and lots of ginger ale. I woke up on Monday not really feeling the symptoms of pregnancy and feel pretty normal. Maybe that's the first trimester coming to an end? I got on the scale this morning & it said I weighed 8lbs LESS than what I did before I was pregnant. I laughed so hard. I'm pretty sure it's broken but I'm not in a hurry to replace it.

Last week I had 3 people (other than Jared) tell me that it's a boy. I have no premonition just yet but we'll be able to find out in early February.

We need to be making progress cleaning out the house, closets, etc - all of which we needed to do before but now we have a reason. That way we can get our stuff out of the way so we can start getting the baby's room ready in the spring. We've received a lot of sweet cards & a few gifts. Penn State embroidered booties, a Boo Boo Bunny and each day there is a "find-a-gift" at my desk. I've been finding fun toys for baby to play with in the bath. Believe it or not, I haven't done any looking or shopping - which is hard to believe because all I need is an excuse to shop. But, it's too early for that & we're focusing on Christmas now.

In other good news, our foster dog Wolfy has a new forever home. A great couple is adopting him & a 3-year old female basset just after the holidays after the female completes her medical treatments. We will be sad when he leaves but the couple is very, very nice and he'll have a great life there.

More to come next week after our appt on Monday. I'm looking forward to seeing some arms and legs this time instead of a furry blueberry!

The announcement

Today was the big 'announcement'. Well, the facebook population that includes many of our friends & co-workers announcement that is. We decided that we're far enough along with no complications & saw the heartbeat a couple weeks ago. It was really hard lying to people about why we can't go out or why I just wanted to sleep non-stop. Keep your fingers crossed & prayers coming. We hope that the next 7 months go as smoothly as the first two.

I'm still feeling pretty good, but have no urge to eat anything after 5pm. I've been forcing myself to eat toast or cereal but right now meat and vegetables gross me out in the evenings. At lunch I've been eating as much of a balanced meal as I can & snacking on nuts and fruit during the day. I can't wait for the evening nausea and tiredness to go away!

All of our friends are super excited for us! We've had such an amazing response to the news. Now, we patiently wait our next appointment...

The beginning

The night we found out we were pregnant, we were both shocked and over-joyed. It was something we discussed and thought would happen, but when it actually happens, there's nothing that can explain that feeling. Then, we patiently waited to get to our first doctors appointment. Nearly 4 weeks after we got the positive test, we got in for our 7 week 3 day ultrasound.

The heartbeat was strong and it just looked like a little pulsing bean. Dr. Thatcher said she could see its head and we just played along smiling at each other, we couldn't see it! We go back for the next ultrasound on December 14th!

I'm feeling pretty good overall. There have been some harder days - tired, forgetful and nausea but no "morning sickness", that seems to arrive around 5-7pm. Trying to eat what I can but no cravings like I expected.

Here are our 7 week 3 day ultrasounds!

Intro

We're so happy to announce that we're expecting our first bundle of joy on July 8, 2010. We're currently 8 weeks pregnant & saw our little bean on Friday, November 20th. Baby Lammy's heart is beating strong and now we're patiently awaiting the "big announcement" to tell our extended group of friends.

I wanted to create a place where our family & friends can stay updated on how the baby is doing and how we're doing since we're so far away from many of you. Please check back as often as you like and I'll do my best to keep it up to date!

Thanks for being in our lives!
